1 cup salt
4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup liquid tempera paint*
Mix ingredients thoroughly by hand, adding more water if needed. Knead until soft and pliable. Make shapes. Items with paint should be left to dry. Items without paint can be baked on a foil-covered baking sheet at 300 degrees for 1/2 to one hour, or until set. Remove from oven and cool. Apply clear shellac or lacquer, or paint with acrylic and seal with shellac or varnish.
*Instead of paint, you can add food coloring if desired. Add enough water to make the clay pliable.
Note: If dough cracks while baking, fill in with moist clay and continue baking. |
