Pony Express monument at South Lake Tahoe
The annual Pony Express Re-Ride is a 10-day non-stop event with over 500 riders and horses. The 1,966 mile route is over the Pony Express National Historic Trail starting in St. Joseph, Missouri, going through Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and ending in Sacramento, California (reverse order every other year). It is the longest event held annually on a historical trail in the nation, even surpassing the famed Iditarod.
